Driving to Work

Wednesday November 4th 2009 10:00am

Yesterday, I drove to work, which was very enjoyable. I was able to leave a little bit later than normal. I was able to take a different route than normal. I was able to have some independence that had previously been lacking without knowing how to drive in this country.

The sun was shining, my shades were on, and I bought some gum from a kid on the side of the road. It was going to be a good day.

It was going to be a boring day.

I had nearly forgotten that my work over the past couple of months had been more or less whiped clean. I spent all of yesterday in the office going back over the websites, the contact information, the letters, and anything else that I could manage to find. At the end of the day Marisela asked if I could send over a project she had asked me to work on about a week earlier.

Although I had finished it, Marisela hadn´t told me who all to send it to, so I hadn´t sent it yet. This of course meant that it no longer existed, so today will probably be spent re-doing that project.

At least we have been having coffee for the past couple of days. Good, strong, Honduran coffee really gets you going in the morning. Hondurans typically take their coffee with sugar, but without milk, so if I forget to get my own cup, and someone brings me a mug, it is usually much sweeter than I am anticipating my black coffee to be.

Patty just left to go see her mother who was recently admitted to the hospital. I don´t know anything more than that, but I hope that Patty and her family find the strength and love that I know they have.
