Normally I don´t write on Mondays, because normally I don´t go to work on Mondays. This Monday, however, I am working.
Friday November 20th
Friday I returned to work. Apparently, everyone else decided to take the day off. Cristian took the day off for a long weekend. Heidy, Alfreddy, and Elmer were all on a work trip to Tela in the north to do an AIDS awareness rally. Edgardo took the day off. Nancy was working with a partner in the south, which only left Freddy, Betza, Patty, and (after 11:00am) Marisela.
I didn´t have a whole lot of work to do, so I asked Freddy if he needed help with anything. He said no, and I began to scour the internet looking for grant applications that we could fill out. After a while, Freddy asked me to come into his office.
He sat me down and explained that some days, there just isn´t a lot of work to be done because not a lot of people show up. So we watched Land of the Lost with Will Ferrell and Chuck from Pushing Daisies. It was a nice Friday.
After work, I relaxed for a while in my apartment and read some of Cornell West´s book Democracy Matters. I should have read it in Religion and Culture class, but decided that I should wait until I was in Honduras to do so. It is a really good, really interesting book, and I am being challenged in my preconcieved notions of democracy. It is the kind of book that really makes you think.
Saturday November 21st
I had to take a taxi to work because Luis Felipe was running late. When I got to the school, all the kids were busy running around putting something together. It was the last week of the school year, but most of the exams had already been taken. I visited with Heidy and Anna for a while before being invited down to the school for a special lunch for all of the teachers.
We were the guests of honor and we sat in the middle of a big room at a table just for us. We took turns thanking the students and saying how much the semester meant to us. It was a really nice treat for the end of the year.
Afterwards, a couple of students came up and thanked me personally. As they left one girl even yelled out in English "Hey mister! I love you" she then giggled with her friends and ran off. It reminded me of being on staff, which made me a little bit sad.
Betza and I caught a cab to Plaza after work, where we did a little bit of grocery shopping before parting ways. I headed back to my apartment for a while, and got some dinner ready. After dinner, I decided to head back to Plaza to watch 2012 (I´m not sure when the movie was released in the US, but its brand new here).
When I tried to buy my ticket, it was sold out, so I bought a ticket for another movie showing at the same time. The movie was called "Te Amaré por Siempre" or "I will love you forever". It was starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, both of whom I like very much. I sat down in the theater, and began to enjoy my movie experience. The movie (though a chick flick) was very interesting, but I found myself distracted by the title. About half way through, I thought to myself "A better name for this movie would be something like ´The Time Traveler´ or ´The Time Travelers Wife´".
Sunday November 22nd
Freddy´s mom had been increasing in her concern about my absense at church, and asked Freddy several times for my phone number so that she could call me and invite me back. I hadn´t been to church in a couple of weeks, and decided to try and go back for one week to appease Freddy´s mom, and also because I was a little bored on Sunday morning.
The Sunday School and the service went by very quickly, and we were done about half an hour early. I was excited to get back and watch some football, but much to my dismay, everyone remained in their seats.
It turns out that they were having a Church Board meeting, of which every member of the church was a part of. For the next two and a half hours, I listened to the reports from each committee and the elections of various new officers. I picked the wrong week to go back to church.
I got back to the apartment just before the Bengals game, which I was hoping would be televised, though it was not. I watched the scores at the bottom of the screen, which started out nice, and ended up badly. I made some dinner and read for a while, though my evening was rather depressing after the Bengals loss to the Raiders.
Monday November 23rd
Today I am working because I will not be working this Thursday (or in all likelihood Friday) because I am putting together a Thanksgiving meal for some of my co workers. Today, I will leave halfway through the day to go to a local market and with Patty´s help I will hopefully get all of the ingredients needed for the Turkey Day Feast.
Today was really great though, because when I got to use the internet, I found out that my cousin is now a dad! Congrats Jeremy and Julie, A(de)lynn looks adorable in those pictures. Jen, how does it feel to be an aunt? Aunt Kris and Uncle Mitch...you are old now, I mean how does it feel to be grandparents? Meemaw and Grandad... you are really old now.
