Vacations

Tuesday January 19th 2010 9:30am

Yesterday was a pretty boring day. Freddy, Edgardo and I were the only ones at the office, which meant that I had no work to do. Without Marisela, or any news from upcoming groups, I was left to my own devices to keep myself occupied. I asked Freddy if he needed help with anything, but he too was lacking work without any of the other employees there to work with.

I think the vacation plan may have backfired slightly. Yes, people need to take them...just not all at once. Literally eight or nine people in our office all took yesterday off, which left the rest of us without much work to do.

By lunch time, I had exhausted my internet time wasting web pages, and was ready to go. Freddy, Edgardo, and I headed to the local market to grab a bite to eat. We took about an hour and a half for our lunch break, and they tried to correct some of my pronunciation for some words. It was a very funny lunch, and when they told me the words that I was actually saying by mispronouncing other words, it became funny to me too.

H.G. Well´s The Time Machine was waiting for me when I got back to the office, and most of the rest of my afternoon was occupied by the book. Next up: The Invisible Man.

After "work" I headed back to the apartment, and made a few phone calls before preparing some hot dogs for my dinner. They were pretty good, but definitely lacking the smokey flavor of a good grilled dog. I watched some TV for a little while before heading up to the roof to try and get some exercise in. I hopped on the bike machine that I use, and was quickly joined by a young couple who also had aspirations of exercising. I had never seen them around the building before, so I assumed that they were new tennants. For the next half hour, while I rode the bike, which was awkwardly facing the couple, the young man did a variety of exercises, all while the young woman just sat in a chair watching him. It was weird. It was really weird.

A refreshing shower later, and I was ready for bed. I read some more of the God Delusion, and again became frustrated with some of the presentations by the author. I decided to switch on the TV and watched a little bit of Late Night with Conan O´Brien before falling asleep. I really like Conan. I think he is hilarious, and I wish that NBC weren´t so dumb with how they are handling this process.
