Patience

Monday February 8th 2010 6:45pm

Everyone at the office really enjoyed the massive amount of food that I brought in, but appreciated the drinks even more. Alleviating the burden of paying for refreshments for a week, I became a popular guy in the office.

With Patty's desk sitting idly by in the large office room with Marisela, Freddy felt that it would make more sense for me to move to Patty's old desk. It was rough leaving the secretaries, but it did make things a lot easier to communicate with Marisela.

That being said...it also meant that I had to communicate with Marisela a lot more. She got in around 10:30am, and we had a lot of conversations about nothing. Literally nothing. For example..."I'm working on a translation, how do I finish this sentence... I need -"

"...I don't know what you are looking for here, Marisela."

"Just finish this...I need -"

"information?" no "people?" no "numbers?" no "food?" no "ideas?" no

It was the worst game of Taboo ever. And we played a lot today. It really made me want to move back.

When 4:00 rolled around, I was ready to get going home. Marisela, however, was not, and everyone stayed at the office an extra half hour for her to finish some of her work before we left. Edgardo kept rushing her, and she got upset. She complained to me in the car for a while about how we are doing the Lords work, and how people shouldn't be in such a hurry to leave at 4:00. I tried my best to explain that the rest of the office arrived at 8:00 and not 10:30 without stepping on her toes, but she was getting upset with me, so I stopped.

We got out of the car, and I headed for home, but Marisela grabbed me and asked me if I remembered the meeting we had in Plaza with the cook for the group for the upcoming week. By that, I mean, she said, "I forgot to tell you, but we have a meeting in Plaza with the cook for the group for the upcoming week."

The meeting lasted until 6:00 and consisted entirely of the cook doing basic math outloud to determine how many eggs she would need, how much chicken she would need, how much rice she would need, and how much juice to need. There was absolutely no need for either Marisela or I to be there.

Of course, right before I left to walk home, Marisela pulled what I like to call a "Michael Scott" and walked with me part of the way, thanking me for my patience, and putting in the extra work with the meeting, and with my help with her translations in the office today.

And then she "reminded me" (told me for the first time) that her, Freddy, and I were going to spend the night in Talanga tomorrow so I needed to bring a change of clothes to the office.

  1. Glad you made the best of your Super Bowl party "leftovers" - great way to share them!

Marisela sounds like people most of us have worked with. I am sure she has some good qualities - what are they?
